Subrata Mukherjee said, "Priyo Da died two years ago. Now Somen has also passed away suddenly. I heard within the last two days that he has recovered. But I got this bad news this morning." He described Mitra as a zealous and courageous party worker.
Private hospital sources said he died of cardiopathy and age-related illness.
"She was hospitalized after her creatinine levels were found to be high during a routine checkup. She was plagued by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other age-related illnesses," said a senior hospital official.

Somen Mitra died at around 1.30am after suffering a coronary failure, hospital sources said, adding that he had a negative test for COVD-19.

Political Career of Mr. Somen Mitra:
Somen Mitra was the three-time president of the West Bengal unit of the Congress in 1992-1996, 1996-1998 so again from September 2018, seven-term MLA from the Sealdah Assembly constituency.
She left the Congress in 2008 and formed her organisation, the Progressive (Progressive) Indira Congress. He later had ties to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) before the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and won the TMC ticket from the Diamond Harbor parliamentary seat that year.
Swain Mitra left the TMC in 2014 to rejoin the Congress.
He was one among the key leaders of the CPI (M) -led Left Front and Congress alliance in province during the 2016 Assembly elections.
