Telengana- Efforts are underway to rescue nine people trapped in a devastating fire at the TS Genco Hydel Power Station on the left bank of Srisailam in Telangana's Nagarkornul district. The incident is said to have taken place late Thursday night. Initially indicated that a short circuit had spread to the area in the form of fire and dense smoke
Of the 17 people reported to be present at the scene, 10 took refuge safely through a tunnel. The detainees included six TS Genco workers and three non-governmental workers.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and tried to rescue the trapped people, including a deputy engineer and an assistant engineer. Officials said thick smoke was hampering rescue efforts.
Telangana Minister Jagadish Reddy and TS Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao went to the spot and supervised the rescue operation.

Reddy said the accident took place in the first unit of the power plant and four panels were damaged. He said rescue workers were unable to enter the tunnel due to thick smoke.
Another team of rescuers is being brought in to help rescue workers from Singareni Colliery.
Power generation at the power plant was initially suspended after the incident.
The Srisailam Dam is located on the Krishna River which serves as the border indicator of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
