Cyclone Nivar to cross Tamil Nadu tomorrow
Nivar, a severe cyclone, is likely to cross the Tamil Nadu coast between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on November 25. According to the IMD, since the depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Monday, the weather situation is likely to worsen further as the next 12 hours will turn into a cyclone and the next 24 hours will turn into a severe cyclone.
Thirty NDRF teams have been nominated to start rescue and relief operations during the storm. According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over the Bay of Bengal will intensify deep depression and at 5:30 pm on Monday in the south-west Bay of Bengal, about 450 km east-south-east of Puducherry and 480 km south-east of central Chennai.
The IMD said, "On the evening of November 25, the storm will pass between Karaikal and Mamallapuram in the vicinity of Puducherry in the north-west and across the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The initial speed of the cyclone will be 100-110 km per hour. Reported.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has convened a review meeting and directed his cabinet colleagues and officials to always be vigilant and take appropriate necessary steps.
At the "NIVAR cyclone" review meeting, several directives were issued, he said in a statement later.
He announced suspension of inter and inter-district bus services in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Bilupuram, Chengalpattu and Pudukottai districts from 1pm on Tuesday and urged people to avoid traveling in their private vehicles.
He instructed the state apparatus to be on standby from Monday, saying it was ready with adequate disaster control equipment and tools for any incident.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said the administration in Puducherry has come up with a multi-dimensional plan to deal with the cyclone.
The government is setting up 80 relief centers, setting up control rooms in all departments and rehabilitating people in the low-lying areas due to heavy rains in Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

He added that all shops and all other business establishments would be closed on Tuesday evening.
In Andhra Pradesh, heavy rains are forecast in many districts of the coastal and Rayalaseema region in the next three days due to the impact of the cyclone. High alert has been issued in the border areas ahead.
State Disaster Management Commissioner K Kanna Babu said the sea would be turbulent and fishermen would not move for three days.
Wind speeds along the Bay of Bengal can be up to 45-65 kmph.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is preparing 30 teams to launch rescue and relief operations for the two states and the Union Territory in response to Cyclone Nibar.
A senior NDRF official in New Delhi said 12 teams have been pre-deployed, 18 teams are on standby in the states and Puducherry.
A team of NDRF has about 35 to 45 personnel, depending on the task and will assist the victims in trees and, basic medicines and other equipment.
The National Crisis Management Committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gowda, has met in the national capital and reviewed various arrangements in the wake of the cyclone. It will work with various stakeholders, including the state government, to ensure that no damage is done to the affected areas and the initial condition is restored.
