 Lucknow: The proposed love jihad law needed cabinet approval.  A few days after it was sent to the Union Law Ministry, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday cleared the 'Love Jihad' ordinance.  The move comes just after the Allahabad High Court, what is said in the law, stating that it would uphold the right to freedom of choice and repeals its own order where it said conversion to marriage does not take place in this law.

  While passing the ordinance, the UP government cited the fact that it had decided to issue the ordinance after examining hundreds of cases and bringing evidence before bringing the ordinance.  The marriage is punishable by up to one to five years in prison for those convicted of forcible conversion.

  Earlier, Madhya Pradesh had made it clear that it would introduce a law to prevent 'profit jihad' during the next assembly session.  The Congress and opposition parties have attacked the BJP, alleging that the term was coined by the ruling party to create unrest in the country, while BJP leader Kailash Vijayavargiya on Monday justified the move by saying, "We have to understand its definition (love jihad).  Legislation is being drafted against the conspiracy behind inter-religious marriages.  Love is serene and effortless;  It has no mention of religion or caste, but if someone loves someone else and marries with a plan or purpose of marriage, then their religion, this law has come from them.  "
