A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale rocked Japan's Fukushima Prefecture, the US Geological Survey announced on Saturday.

                          

A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale rocked Japan's Fukushima Prefecture, the US Geological Survey announced on Saturday.


The earthquake occurred at a depth of 54 km at 19:37. The epicenter was 90 km northeast (ENE) in the city of Nami, Japan.

                               

                               

So far no casualties have been reported.

                              

The US Tsunami Warning Center said there was no initial information that a tsunami was imminent, Sputnik reported.

                               

Japan experiences frequent earthquakes because it is located on the Ring of Fire - a famous area in the Pacific Ocean with very high seismic activity.
