The daughter of Dubai's powerful ruler, who tried to escape in 2018 to be captured by commandos on a ship near India, reappeared in a new video on Tuesday, saying she doesn't know if she will survive this situation. '

The video released by the BBC shows Sheikh Latifa Mohammed Al Maktoum strewn with skyscrapers in a "prison" that appears to be in a city-state in the United Arab Emirates. His father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is also the Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE.

"I am a hostage," the sheikh said in a video.

"This mansion has been turned into a prison."

"I can't even go out for fresh air," he said.

The state media service in Dubai did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.

In 2018, the AP reported on how a friend and former French spy helped Sheikh Latifa escape by boat to be captured near India.

The BBC reports that Sheikha Latifa has been filming months of video in the villa's bathroom with a secretly given phone about a year after her arrest.

"I don't know when I will be released and under what conditions I will be released," he said in a video. "Every day I worry about my safety and my life."

The videos, which are part of an episode of the BBC's panoramic investigative series on Tuesday, also include an interview with Mary Robinson, the former President of Ireland and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights  Robinson appears in a photo with Latifa released by representatives of the emirate's authorities after the sheikh returned to Dubai in 2018.

Robinson told the BBC she had been misled by Emirates authorities who told her that Latifa was a young woman who was concerned about the care of her family.

"I was very fooled when the photos were released," Robinson told the BBC. "It was a complete surprise." I was completely dumbfounded.

The Navy's future dramatic escape and its consequences have infiltrated the image of the carefully controlled Sheikh Mohammed family, who are believed to have several dozen children by several women. Some of the sons and daughters are known in the local media and on the internet, while others are rarely seen. Sheikh Latifah was known for his love of skydiving before 2018.

Sheikh Mohammed's family life became a public issue again in 2020. A British judge later ruled that Sheikh had carried out a campaign of fear and intimidation against his estranged wife and ordered the kidnapping of two of his daughters, one of whom was Sheikh Latifa. The decision was taken in a custody battle between Sheikh Mohammed and his estranged wife, Princess Haya, the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan.

Sheikh Mohammed is the founder of the successful Godolfin Horse Racing Stable and a close friendship with Queen Elizabeth II of England. In 2019, she received the trophy from the Queen after one of her horses won a race at Royal Ascot.
