 Veteran poet Sankha Ghosh died of corona disease.  Boy was 90 years old.  The whole literary world mourned his death.  Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her condolences.


 Poet Sankha Ghosh died of corona disease.  He breathed his last at home on Wednesday morning.  He died in his sleep. 



 The age was 90 years.  The  poet had been suffering from corona since April .  Reluctance in the hospital so he was in isolation at home.  Bengali literary circles mourned his death.



It is learned that poet had been suffering from fever since April 12.  He was also tested for covid as he had multiple symptoms. 


 Then on April 14 his report came positive.  Although he had objections to going to the hospital.  So the family is forced to make arrangements for home isolation. 



 The ICU infrastructure was built at home.  The poet was suffering from the problem of old age.  He became physically weaker due to covid. 



 On Tuesday night, his condition suddenly began to deteriorate.  He was given a ventilator on Wednesday morning.  But all the efforts of the doctors failed and he died at 8 am.  He also had physical problems last January.  Even then he was admitted to the hospital once.  Note that the rest of his family members are also affected by corona.


 Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over his death.  In his words, 'Shankhababu has taught Bengali literature at Jadavpur, Delhi and Visva-Bharati University. 



 His notable books are Babar's Prayer, , Ocampo's Rabindranath, Dhoom Lageche Hridkamale, A Amir's cover.  

He has been awarded Jnanpith, Padma Bhushan, Desikottam, Sahitya Akademi, Rabindra Smriti Award and many other honors.  I had a very good relationship with Shankhababu.


  His death was an irreparable loss to the literary world.  I extend my sincere condolences to the relatives and fans of the late Shankha Ghosh.  The Chief Minister said that his last rites will be performed with state honors.  However, he did not like the song salute.  So there will be mourning at the funeral without a song salute.  All the family members said that he wanted his funeral to be completed in silence.  Firhad Hakim and Sadhan Pandey reached poet'shouse to stand by his family.  Mourning has also been expressed on behalf of the Left Front.



 Shankha Ghosh has made a long contribution to the world of Bengali literature.  The legendary poets like ' 'Gandharva Poems', 'Birthday', 'Behind', 'Days and Nights', 'Babar's Prayer' are timeless creations.  His political identity has been repeatedly expressed in his literary pursuits and lifestyle. 



 Recently, he has been seen repeatedly protesting in pen against the central government's Citizenship Amendment Bill.  From the first healing, he protested in his own way.


  Sankh Ghosh has also taught at institutions like Delhi University, University of Iowa and Visva-Bharati.  He was also renowned as a Rabindra expert.  Shankha Ghosh has been awarded multiple honors in his long literary life. 



 In 1977, he received the country's second highest literary award, the Sahitya Akademi, for his book of poetry, Babar's Prayer.

  In 1999, he translated the play 'Raktakalyan' from Kannada into Bengali and won the Sahitya Akademi Award.  He has also received Rabindra Award, Saraswati Samman, Jnanpith Award.  In 2011 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the then central government.
