The government will try to involve private sector in the space sector, the finance minister said.

Private companies will ensure that space research materials and various economic benefits are available. The private sector will also be allowed to use the ISRO facility. Also, future projects to explore the planet will remain open to the private sector.

The Feasibility Gap Fund will be increased from 20 per cent to 30 per cent of project expenditure. The total cost is Rs 6,100 crore.

The government will take help of privatization of power distribution companies in the Union Territories. The power department and utilities in these areas will be privatized, said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The failure of distribution companies will not be allowed to cause inconvenience to customers,

Sitharaman said electricity tariff reforms would be further enhanced. Things like load shedding will be discouraged.

The government announced the availability of airspace and said six more airports would be privatized.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said 100 per cent of India's airspace is now freely available. The ban on the use of Indian airspace will now be eased. This will save thousands of crores of rupees on flight costs.

Also, six more airports have been identified for privatization in the second round of public-private partnership. The government expects to invest Rs 12,000 crore in the first and second rounds.

India will be developed as a center for maintenance, repair and overhaul management in both the private and defense sectors.

At present, the government has automatically increased the limit of foreign direct investment for defense production from 49 per cent to 74 per cent.

The government will also provide a list of weapons and platforms, which will increase every year, the finance minister said.

 A separate budget will be allocated for local procurement, which will reduce the defense equipment import bill, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Apart from this, an attempt will also be made to form a corporation of ordinance factory boards.

• ☞The fourth trench in the Covid-19 package is structurally reformed

As part of the government's Rs 20 lakh crore economic assistance program, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said she needed to simplify the rules in some sectors as soon as she started work on the Fourth Declaration.
