The government will take help of privatization of power distribution companies in the Union Territories. The power department and utilities in these areas will be privatized, said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Sitharaman said electricity tariff reforms would be further enhanced. Things like load shedding will be discouraged.

The government announced the availability of airspace and said six more airports would be privatized.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said 100 per cent of India's airspace is now freely available. The ban on the use of Indian airspace will now be eased. This will save thousands of crores of rupees on flight costs.

Also, six more airports have been identified for privatization in the second round of public-private partnership. The government expects to invest Rs 12,000 crore in the first and second rounds.

At present, the government has automatically increased the limit of foreign direct investment for defense production from 49 per cent to 74 per cent.

 A separate budget will be allocated for local procurement, which will reduce the defense equipment import bill, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.

  • The fourth trench in the Covid-19 package is structurally reformed


As part of the government's Rs 20 lakh crore economic assistance program, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said she needed to simplify the rules in some sectors as soon as she started work on the Fourth Declaration.
