The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a grocery store and a laptop shop in the town of Zolo in Sulu province, said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, the regional military commander.  At least five soldiers and four civilians were killed in the initial attack when two letters exploded near an army truck.  "These explosives are portable. The carrier had an explosive device that exploded when our troops were in front of the market," Vinluan told reporters.

Apparently a female suicide bomber detonated a second bomb in the run-up to the attack, and about an hour later the bomber and a soldier were killed.  , Vinluan and alternative officials made statements.

"Another explosion occurred just as a soldier was searching for someone," Vinluan said.

"The third bomb was reportedly found in front of a public market. Jello was detained by soldiers and police during a secure detention. About 40 army, police and civilian officers were injured in the bombing."

A photo provided by the Associated Press shows soldiers carrying one person from the scene.  The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a military truck.  And the victim of another explosion was lying on the street.

A motorbike and part of its wreckage were seen on the road.  The initial bombing was carried out in a Muslim area near a new plaza and a modern Roman Catholic.

The southern part of the country is home to a majority Muslim minority of Roman Catholics and has been the scene of decades of Muslim separatist unrest, in these remote island provinces like Zolo.  While no militant group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack, the military has blamed Abu Sayyaf militant commander Mundi Sawadjan for the bombing.

The same officer recently planned to carry out a bomb attack on two female suicide bombers in the same week that Sadadjan Sulu was tortured.  Troops are on a military operation to find and capture Saudjan, and so in June suicide bombers stopped four army members at a Zolo police stop and shot them dead.

The army was outraged and presented the killing as a riot and demanded it.

Charges of murder were filed against 9 policemen.  Police officers say it was a mistaken clash between the army and police.

The army has been attacking Abu Sayyaf for months.  There have been a number of bombings, ransom kidnappings and beheadings in the past with the Islamic State group and in the Philippines.  Was blacklisted as a terrorist organization.

Due to the devastation of military warfare, the number of its armed fighters has grown in recent years.  Surrendering and together is a chief of staff, Abduljihad Susukan, who was released to authorities two weeks ago after being wounded in battle.

Susukan said he was convicted of kidnapping and beheading hostages together with foreign tourists and surrendered through a Muslim rebel leader who had signed a peace treaty and was cooperating with the government.  He is currently in police custody and has faced multiple murder cases.

Military officials say they may have intended to detain Susukan, who was partially in police custody in Monday's bombings, and face multiple murder and arrest charges.  .
