London-  A stabbing in the center of Birmingham, England's second city, has left several people injured.  British police called the stabbing a "major incident" on Sunday morning.

 "We can confirm that we arrived today (Sunday, September-September) at 12:30 a.m. in the city center of Birmingham with reports of a stabbing," West Midlands Police said in a statement.

  The statement added, "There have been reports of a few more stabbings in the region" and "we will consider this a major incident."

  "We are concerned about a number of injured people, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many were injured.

  "However, all the emergency services are working together at the scene and arrangements are being made to take the injured to the treatment center."

 

  Footage broadcast on British television news channels showed police officers in forensic suits arriving at the scene and cordoning off the area.

  "Work is still underway to establish what happened, and we may take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything," West Midlands Police said.

  "Not all statements should be made at this early stage."
