Reacting to the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that the Boeing 777-200 was spotted with a deck-engine fault shortly after returning to Denver International Airport.

  The agency said the incident happened when Flight 328 flew from Denver to Honolulu. Another United Airlines statement said there were 231 passengers and 10 crew members present at the time of the incident. All passengers are expected to book a new flight, the airline said.

  Debris fell from the plane during an emergency landing

  Reporting the horrific incident, the Broomfield Police Department posted pictures on Twitter of how a huge pile of rubble, lying in front of a suburban home, was located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of Denver. Noting no injuries were reported, the Broomfield department said it would notify people if anyone was injured.

        

"Some of the debris landed in Commons Park and in the Northmoor and Red Leaf neighbourhoods. Our patrol officers are working to locate all of the debris. If you have debris in your yard or near your home please call dispatch at 303.438.6405 to report asap."

   

Referring to the incident, one of the passengers who was at the time of the engine failure told the Associated Press that this horrific fire began to unfold as soon as the full-time retirement plane took off. David Delusia, who sat across the isle directly from the side with the failed engine, said,The plane started shaking violently, and we lost altitude and we started going down. When it initially happened, I thought we were done. I thought we were going down."
