JHARKHAND:

 Former Union Minister of State for Coal (MOS) Dilip Roy has been sentenced to three years in prison in a two-decade-old Jharkhand coal block allocation scam.

 

  A special CBI court in New Delhi today sentenced former Union Minister of State for Coal (MOS) Dilip Roy to three years in prison in a two-decade-old Jharkhand coal block allocation case.

 The verdict was reserved to the extent of convicting the court on 14 October and sentencing on 26 October (today).


  Jharkhand coal block allocation scam

  During the NDA government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999, Roy Coal was the Minister of Home Affairs (Independent Charge) and the case concerns the allocation of 105.153 hectares of abandoned Brahmadih Coal Block in Giridih, Jharkhand to Castron Technologies Limited.



 

  Apart from the verdict, two senior officials of the Coal Ministry - then Additional Secretary Pradeep Kumar Bandyopadhyay, along with Niti Nanda Gautam, former advisor (project) of Castron Technologies Limited, its director Mahendra Kumar Agarwala and Castron Mining Limited - were also convicted.  .


  Convicted with offenses under sections 120-B and 120-B / 409/420 of the IPC and sections 120-B / 409/420 and 13 (1) (c), 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, among others, including the verdict.  Convicted, 1988 Corruption Act.
