The BJP was holding a protest procession at the State Secretariat Navanne on Thursday.  The controversial video of police clashing with Balwinder Singh, a personal bodyguard of BJP leader Priyangu Pandey, went viral on social media.

Police, however, claimed that Balwinder Singh was carrying a weapon illegally.

BJP state branch president Dilip Ghosh on Thursday said it was a licensed weapon and that the man had all the legal documents to carry the firearm.

Dilip Babu said at a press conference on Thursday that "the police were a safe person and he should be released as he was carrying a licensed weapon."
