The Indian government is planning to create its own mobile app store
BENGALURU, Oct 1 - India has launched plans to launch its own app store, an alternative to Apple and alphabetical Google, to make the country self-sufficient, official sources said on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government may ramp up the mobile service app store for the purpose, the television channel reported.
At present the number of app users in India will be 7.5% in 2020 and is expected to hit 10.7% by 2024.
With this in mind, “Android has 97% market share in India. So, Indian startups should take a step in this direction, "ET Now official sources said. Unlike Google or Apple, the store will not charge 30% for hosting applications.
According to the channel, the government is also considering a plan to make it mandatory to install apps on Android phones with apps.
