Opposition groups in the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan seized control of a government building during a protest rally on Friday.  They later released the convicted former president, Almazbek Atabayev, from prison.


 Kyrgyz President Suronbay Zinbekov says the country is facing a state coup.  However, he instructed law enforcement not to open fire on protesters.


 In a video message, Zinbekov said a political force was using the election results as a breach of discipline;  They are reckless.


 So far, all possible steps have been taken to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, President Zinbekov said.  He urged the opposition to calm their supporters and remove the protesters from the protest site.


 "I urge the Central Election Commission (CEC) to conduct an impartial, proper investigation into the violence and, if necessary, cancel the election results," Zinbekov said.

 As seen in the video posted on social media, former President Almazbek Atabayev greeted everyone after being released from prison by supporters.  He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on corruption charges
