  KOLKATA: More than a dozen Hindu families were vandalized and their homes set on fire in Bangladesh's Comilla district after a man shared a Facebook post about a controversy over the publication of a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad in France.

  The incident took place at Korbanpur village under Muradnagar upazila of Comilla on Sunday afternoon.  The office of local Union Parishad chairman Bankumar Shiva and the house of accused Shankar Debnath were set on fire.


  More than 10 Hindu families were also attacked, vandalized and connected with fire in Bangladesh.


  According to locals, Shankar Debnath, a local from the village on Saturday, is said to have commented on and supported the cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammad in a Facebook post about France.  A case has been filed in this regard.


  Police on Sunday arrested another accused in the case, Shankar and Anik Bhowmik, and sent them to jail on charges of insulting religious sentiments.  .  The vandalism video has gone viral.


  Notably, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury today expressed concern over reports of attacks on the Hindu minority in some parts of Bangladesh and called on the Center to raise the issue with the neighboring country immediately.


  Chowdhury mentioned in recent media reports that the attacks on temples were accompanied by arson and looting by radical forces in Hindu families in Bangladesh.


  In a statement, the senior Congress leader said, "Our Hindu family has been targeted by radical forces and victims of arguments and other acts of violence in retaliation for the stand taken by our government.  Will be. "
