Tamil Nadu: 103 kg of gold lost from the control of the Central Investigation Agency! The price of the 'missing' gold from #CBI custody in Tamil Nadu is around Rs 43 crore.
The #MadrasHighCourt on Friday directed the Tamil Nadu CID to conduct an inquiry. On the same day, the CBI had requested that the investigation be conducted with a central investigative body other than the CID. The court did not accept that application.
The Madras High Court said in its judgment today that it was a litmus test for the CBI. But there is no other way. If they are right then they will win. And if that doesn't happen, it's still a way to get more involved.
Note that in 2012, the gold was confiscated by the CBI. A company called Surana Corporation Limited seized 400.47 kg of gold.
The gold came into the hands of the CBI with gold butts and jewelery. Surana's locker was sealed by the Central Investigation Agency. The CBI claimed that they had submitted the key of the locker to the special CBI court in Chennai.
