Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual summit on Monday and with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.  The scheduled meeting is a high-level exchange of views between the two sides this year and it is being held at an appropriate time as both countries are fighting China's aggressive move in the region.

Notable about the Indo-Vietnam Virtual Summit:

  1. During the summit, the two leaders will exchange views on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues and plan for the future development of a comprehensive India-Vietnam strategic partnership, the official press release said.

  2. There is a possibility of many agreements or declarations on issues related to defense, energy, development partnerships and healthcare.

  3. The two-nation leadership will also discuss the effectiveness of India's  100 million defense line for 12 high-speed guard boats for Vietnam.  The conference also aims to explore new opportunities for renewable energy cooperation.

  4) The Bilateral Conference will also focus on India's development and capacity building through initiatives such as the Rapid Impact Project, the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative, the Water Resources Management Project in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, digital connectivity and heritage conservation.

  5) In the event of an epidemic these two leaders will adopt regional and global landscapes and exchange their personal strategies to deal with the deadly virus.

  6. This year, Dang Thi Ngok Thinho, Vice President of Vietnam, paid an official visit to India in February.  The two prime ministers even had a telephone conversation in April to discuss the Kovid-19 epidemic.  In addition, the two leaders practically met at the 17th ASEAN-India Summit last month.

A decade after becoming a strategic partner in 2016, India and Vietnam are about to formally symbolize their relationship as a ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’.  India is one of the few countries in the world to have such a partnership with Vietnam
