At least 17 people died when the roof of an shelter at a cremation ground in collapsed at the cremation site in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, police said. 38 people have now been saved.


The roof collapsed as more than 25 people took shelter in the building during the rain. Most of them were relatives of Ram Dan, who was cremated at the time.

 

"So far 17 people have been killed, 38 people have been rescued after the collapse of the warehouse in Muradnagar. We have opened an investigation and will take strong action against those found guilty," said Anita S. Meshram, division commissioner, Meerut.



Union Defense Minister Rajnat Singh also expressed his sorrow at the incident.


“I am very saddened by the news of the deaths of several people when the roof of the crematorium in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad fell. During this hour of mourning, I would like to send my condolences to the families of the deceased and hope that the victims will recover as soon as possible. . "The minister wrote in Hindi from his own questioner on Twitter.



Rescuers are still working through the rubble to find more victims, said Iraj Raja, police chief of Ghaziabad (village) village. Several people were hospitalized.


A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also on site, reported PTI.


Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanat expressed sorrow at the loss of life in the accident.


The prime minister ordered employees to financially support each deceased's relatives, according to the Lacke 2 state government.


The Minister General also instructed the Commissioner of the Meerut Department and the Meerut ADG region to submit a report on the matter.
