Yesterday, standing in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the farmers who had been staying at the Delhi border for two and a half months as 'agitators'. And just hours later, in his first phone conversation with newly elected US President Joe Biden and Narendra Modi, he reminded them of the importance of democratic values and institutions, and called for bilateral cooperation to further strengthen it.
These two seemingly isolated issues are by no means unconnected. With the rise of the agrarian movement, the practice has started in the international arena. Not only the Sikh organizations in Britain or Canada or the singers and social workers of those countries, but also the Foreign Ministry of the Biden administration has been seen to be vocal about the issue. Earlier, he expressed concern over the statement.

In Biden's conversation with Modi yesterday, the issue of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region came up, as well as the issue of defending democracy. A statement from the White House said, "President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have pledged to increase cooperation in the fight against terrorism." The two heads of state also spoke about building partnerships in environmental protection, the fight against international terrorism and rebuilding the world economy in a way that benefits both countries.
The statement later said, "US President Biden has stated his intention to safeguard democratic institutions and the rule of law around the world. At the same time, he noted that the key force in India-US relations is mutual adherence to democratic values. According to political circles, Biden's remarks are indicative of the very beginning of diplomatic relations with India in the current context.
The Prime Minister also tweeted about talking to Biden. Modi greeted Biden. Wrote, ‘I wish him success. There has been talk of local bilateral issues. We have agreed to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries on climate change. We are committed to abiding by international norms, maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region, and enhancing and strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries. "
