South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. said in a statement on Monday that they would no longer be associated with Apple in developing autonomous vehicles, as their shares are tumbling.

In early January, at a conference, the Korea Economic Daily TV reported that Apple and Hyundai had begun discussions on developing self-propelled electric vehicles by 2027 and improving batteries in U.S. factories operated by Hyundai or its partner Kia Corps.

Shares of Hyundai and Kier fell 6.6% and 13.6%, respectively, from 1216 GMT, in contrast to the broad-based KOSPI's 0.6% drop.

So far this year, Hyundai shares have seen a 30% increase, while Kia has seen a 63% increase in app application car reports.  Apple has never acknowledged talking to automakers about making vehicles.

Reuters, on the other hand, said in a report in December that Apple was advancing in autonomous car technology and could bring its own breakthrough battery technology in early 2024 with the goal of building a passenger car.
