Yash  Dasgupta joined the BJP in the presence of the chairman of the West Bengal party, Kailash Vijayvargiya, BDP national vice president, Mukul Roy, and a member of parliament from Raja Sabha, Suapan Dasgupta.

The developments took place shortly before state elections in West Bengal and would help the BJP to intensify its election campaign.

Yash Dasgupta is said to be a close friend of political actor and member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha Nushrat Jahan.

"If you want to change the system, you have to be part of the system," said Yash Dasgupta after joining the BJP.

Yash Dasgupta made his tollywood debut in 2016 with a gangster against Mimi Chakraborty.

Since then he has starred in Bengali films such as One, Mon Jaane Na, Total Dadagiri, Fidaa and SOS Kolkata.

In another development, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) boss Mohan Bagwat met with Mithun Chakraborty in Mumbai on Tuesday, sparking speculation about whether the veteran actor will join the BJP ahead of the main elections in West Bengal.

After the meeting, Mithun Chakraborty said she had a "spiritual connection" with Mohan Bagwat and that she met him in Lucknow.

Mithun Chakraborty also denied rumors that he was re-entering politics and joining the BJP. "Don't speculate on anything. Nothing like this has ever happened before."

Mithun Chakraborty is a former member of the King of Sabha and has long been linked to the ruling Trinamool congress in Bengal before leaving the party in 2016 for health reasons.
