Netanyahu's office said his security cabinet had unanimously adopted an Egyptian ceasefire proposal on the recommendation of the Israeli military chief and other senior security officials. 

A statement made "significant achievements in the operation, some of which are unprecedented. They also contained a veiled threat to Hamas." The political leaders stressed that the reality on the ground will determine the future of the campaign.

The United States, Israel's closest and most important ally, initially supported Israel's right to self-defense against indiscriminate rocket fire.  The Americans put increasing pressure on Israel to stop the offensive. 

In a rare public breakdown, Netanyahu briefly turned down a public call from President Joe Biden on Wednesday to calm down and appeared determined to do maximum damage to Hamas in a war that could save his political career,

 But on Thursday evening to Netanyahu Office announced the ceasefire agreement.Hamas followed quickly. Militants continued to fire sporadic rockets at Israel early Friday before the 2 a.m. ceasefire. will come into force.
