Kolkata: The Posta flyover collapsed four years ago.  Many people are still terrified of that nightmare.  After so many days of accidents, the state government finally decided to demolish the Vivekananda flyover or Posta flyover.  The decision was taken at a high-level meeting in Navanne on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor  Firhad Hakim, Chief Secretary, Works Secretary, Mayor and other officials.  At that meeting, it was decided that within a month, a technical committee headed by bridge expert GK Raina would report to the state government on how much of the bridge should be demolished.  In other words, the committee will decide whether the entire bridge will be demolished or half, one-fourth.  In addition, the alignment can be changed anew.

For a long time, there was tension over the Posta flyover.  Discussions were held on behalf of the state government with multiple bridge researchers.  But there was no special gain. None of the other experts, including Kharagpur IIT, could clearly inform the state government about the exact decision on the bridge.
