Earlier, after a good start, India Mumbai (Michigan) made just 22 runs and lost three wickets in the last three overs as CSK stuck to their super rivals for 162/9 when they beat the first.
Lungi Ngidi (3/38) scored twice in the penultimate match-back and Deepak Chahar (2/32) scored as CSK stopped in the MI inning after the reigning champions led 121/3 early in the 15th minute. .
After CSK captain MS Dhoni was chosen as captain, captain Rohit Sharma (12) and his partner Quinton de Kock (33) immediately started with MI. The pair made 46 runs in the first five overs before Rohit took on Sam Quran from Piyush Chaula (1/21). de Kock was fired in next place by Curran (1/28) when he hit the ball straight down Shane Watson's throat at Midwicket.
Saurabh Tiwary (42) and Suryakumar Yadav (17) kept the boat steady for the next five overs, with the former taking Ngidi to the cleaners on the 13th. The wheels fell for MI soon after, however, and Ravindra Jadea took two doors on the 15th. then returned to "death" for the early game favorite equalizer, as Hardick Pandya and Kieron Pollard didn't shoot for MI.
