On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha decided to reduce the salaries of all MPs by 30 per cent for one year, citing the current Kovid-19 epidemic. Members of Parliament have unanimously passed the Salaries, Allowances and Pensions (Amendment) Bill, 2020 for the members of the lower house.
The bill was brought to the lower house of loksabha on September 14 (Monday). Earlier this year, the government introduced the Ministers' Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020, which decided to cut the pay allowance for each minister by 30 per cent for one year starting from April 2020.

An ordinance to revise the salaries, allowances and pensions of Union Cabinet MPs and ministers by 30 per cent was introduced on April 5 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cabinet decided to suspend the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) project for two years and deposit the money in the government treasury.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told a press briefing that President Ram Nath Kobind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and governors had also offered to give up 30 per cent of their salaries.
"The Union Cabinet has also approved a temporary suspension of MPLAD funds for MPs in 2020-21 and 2021-22 to manage the adverse effects of health management and the outbreak of Kovid-19. Javadekar said.
