The COVID-19 lockdown has affected the F&B industry like never before in human history. The restaurant is struggling to get back up and gradually adjust to the new normal. . As the lockdown is lifted in most Indian cities, restaurants welcome people to dinner in a new Pattern.

Restaurants pave the way by introducing new and innovative initiatives that allow their customers to eat again while considering social distancing and cleanliness.

India's Food Safety and Standards Authorit (FSSAI) has introduced new regulations requiring restaurant companies with more than 10 chains to include serving sizes, calories per serving and allergens on their menus. The new regulations are currently a voluntary step, but will be binding starting January 1, 2022.

Arun Singhal, IAS, CEO, FSSAI said, "When we encourage people to eat the right and healthy diet, consumers deserve to know how many calories they are consuming." However, industry stakeholders say implementing these provisions is difficult and must remain voluntary.

Meanwhile, Gurbaxish Singh Kohli, President, HRAWI is concerned that the new regulations could be applied to restaurants for various purposes. "I think universal applicability will be a challenge. Limiting just one network or just 10 restaurants doesn't make sense and has to cross the spectrum," he added.

Singal suggests running the movement as a pilot for at least a year to gauge its practicality.
