The Philippines relocated more than 51,000 people to safer locations as the approaching tropical storm,  Destinations, flooded the southern and central parts of the Philippines, the state disaster agency said on Sunday.

The Philippines relocated more than 51,000 people to safer locations as the approaching tropical storm, D Destinations, flooded the southern and central parts of the Philippines, the state disaster agency said on Sunday.

The Civil Protection Service said the government evacuated more than 51,000 people in the provinces of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte and Dinagat Islands Sunday morning due to heavy flooding.

D Goal, the country's first storm this year, is expected to hit Monday morning, according to a bulletin from the US Bureau of Meteorology.

At 7pm local time, the weather department announced that Dojuan was 275 km east of the city of Surigao in the province of Surigao del Norte in the southern Philippines. It travels at a speed of 25 km / h to the northwest and collects maximum continuous winds of 65 km / h with gusts of up to 80 km / h, the office said.

"(The goal) is expected to remain strong over the next 12 hours. The possibility of weight loss in a tropical depression before reaching land has not been ruled out," the Bureau of Meteorology added, warning of heavy rains and sea storms.

"Under these conditions, isolated flooding (including high tide) and landslides caused by rain is most likely to occur during heavy or prolonged rains, particularly in areas that are very or highly susceptible to these hazards, as shown on the hazard map." said the office.

The aim will affect several provinces on the southern island of Luzon, the central Philippines and the Mindanao region in the south of the country, the office warned.

From June to December, typhoons and tropical storms hit the Philippines regularly, claiming hundreds of lives and causing billions of damage.

Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is among the most vulnerable countries, including active volcanoes, frequent earthquakes, and an average of 20 typhoons per year that cause floods and landslides. (/ Xinhua)
