Tunisia, July 16 (AP) - Tunisia's prime minister resigned on Wednesday amid suspicions of a conflict of interest over a partnership with a worthless processing company worth 15 million euros, which has been awarded a government contract.

The revelations about the Alice Fakhfaq Company session sparked weeks of political tension at a critical time when the North African country was plunged into a deep economic and social crisis by a viral epidemic and subsequent lockdown.

An official statement said that he "considered the national interest and resigned without any further complication for the country and opened a new path for the country to emerge from the crisis."

In his "honesty" petition, Fakhfaq admitted to being a partner in the company while in office, but said he owned and sold third-party shares. Many investigations are going on in the case.

His departure was a victory for the rival Islamist party Enadhar, which was at odds with Fakhfakh for refusing to expand the government to include allied parties.

At the request of President Mozai Saeed, Fakhfakh submitted his resignation in a private meeting with the president and in front of Ennahda leader Rachid Ghannouchi, Radio Mosaic reported.

Fakhfakh said that he will hold the post until an heir is named. The president has 10 days to begin reviewing the election of a new prime minister with political parties and parliamentary parties.
