Keep an eye on the sky!  There will be two full moons this October.

Usually 12 full moons are seen in a year.  Which is done once a month.  But in 2020, two full moons will meet in October.  One will meet on Thursday, October 1 and then on Friday, October 31, this time a rare moon will be seen in the night sky.

Once every 3 years the Corn Moon occurs which is seen shining in the September sky.

According to NASA, this time the rare event is called the blue moon.

 what causes blue moon

Despite the name, the blue moon will not actually appear in blue.  In fact, a blue moon does not seem to be different than a regular, monthly full moon.

NASA reports that a blue moon usually occurs every two and a half to three years.  The last blue moon was seen on March 31, 2018.

The term blue moon has been used to describe the second full moon in a calendar month since the 1940s.  It inspires the phrase "Once upon a time on the blue moon ..."

In recent years, people have been using the term "blue moon" to refer to other types of moons.

The term can also describe a third of the four full moons in a single season - between Saltisis and Echinox.  It is called the seasonal blue moon.

The next blue moon will be seen in August 2021
