New Delhi:

He was one of the founders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He started his life in the late sixties and entered the Rajya Sabha in the eighties.  From May 16, 1996 to June 1 of that year, Atal Bihari Bajpayee was in charge of the Finance Ministry.  He took over as full finance minister in 2002.  He was the Union Finance Minister from July 1, 2002 to May 21, 2004.  He was in charge of the Ministry of External Affairs from 1998 to 2002, for four long years.  He served in the Ministry of Defense from January 200 to October 2001.

A rare example of Bajpayee's 13-month government was Jashwant Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission in 1998-99.  He was a member of Rajya Sabha five times and Lok Sabha four times in his political life.  He was elected MP from Jodhpur in Rajasthan in 1989 Lok Sabha elections and from Chittorgarh constituency in that state in 1996 and 1991. He was nominated from Darjeeling constituency and won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

In 1999, the then Foreign Minister Yashwant Singh visited Kandahar in Afghanistan to discuss the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane, citing the example of indomitable, unequal bravery.

He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha after the fall of the Vajpayee government in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.  But within months of winning the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Darjeeling, he was ousted from the BJP in praise of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.  In his book Jashwant, Jinnah is not responsible for the partition of India.  Decades after the expulsion, the BJP took back the leadership.

Deeply pained by the passing away of veteran BJP leader & former Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh ji.  He served the nation in several capacities including the charge of Raksha Mantri.  He distinguished himself as an effective Minister and Parliamentarian.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Jashwant became an independent candidate without getting a BJP ticket in the Baram constituency.  He was expelled again.  He also lost the election.  Jashwant, however, did not return to active politics.

All political personalities mourned his passing

Jaswant is one of the longest serving MPs.  Jaswant fell at his home in August 2014 and suffered severe head injuries.  He was treated at the Army Hospital in Delhi for a long time.  .
