Mumbai:

Power outages disrupted life in several parts of Mumbai around 10 a.m. on Monday, October 12, due to power outages.  Andheri, Kandivali, Bashi, Thane, Juhu, Mira Road, Navi Mumbai and Panvel.

Some traffic signals in the area have stopped working as well, NDTV reported.  According to a report in the Times of India, the water supply from the pump house to Thane has also been cut off.

As life across the city came to a standstill, Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut said the reason for the power cut was a technical fault in Circuit 2 of the power house at Kalva-Padghe.

"Power has been cut off in the areas between Thane and Mumbai due to a technical fault in Circuit 2 of the power house at Kalva-Padghe. Our staff is working and power will be restored in an hour or 45 minutes," Raut assured, according to ANI.

Meanwhile, Tata Power reported that a simultaneous substation tripping at MSETCL's Kalwa, Khargar at 10:10 a.m. caused a power outage in the Mumbai transmission system, causing a lot of frustration in the frequency.

Earlier, Brihannumbai Power Supply and Transport (Best) said on Twitter that power supply from Tata had been cut off.

The Greater Mumbai Corporation has provided a few numbers on Twitter to call citizens in case of emergency.

The BMC commissioner also issued a statement saying that arrangements have been made to provide adequate supply of diesel for at least eight hours for emergency services in hospitals, especially in ICUs, to avoid power shortages.  All hospitals have been asked to contact their private SWM transport garage officials immediately.

  Local trains affected

Central Railway's Mumbai suburban trains were stopped at various places due to grid failure, and Western Railway announced that service between Churchgate and Borivali would be suspended due to grid failure.
