#NewDelhi: The Supreme Court said on Thursday that there should be some screenings of shows and web series broadcast on Top Platforms (OTT) and urged the government to come up with a decision set as recently as tomorrow.

"Some regulation is needed because in some cases even pornography is displayed on such a platform and a balance needs to be maintained," said the SC bank.

The Supreme Court heard the appeal of Amazon Prime Video Commercial Manager Aparna Purohit against a Allahabad Supreme Court order denying her bail amid an ongoing investigation into the Tandav web series.

The court will consider the central provisions and Aparna Purohit's rescue request tomorrow.

                                

The government's new social media rule, the OTT platform, gives it the ability to download content

On February 25, the government announced new rules for social media and OTT platforms to ensure an equal media platform for print media, television and digital platforms.

Under the new rules, OTT platforms and digital media must disclose information about where they post, what type of content they share, and how much customer data it contains. You also need to set up a complaint mechanism.

To regulate the OTT platform, the government has ordered the formation of an independent regulatory body chaired by retired judges or figures.

A separate monitoring mechanism is also proposed as a third level.

                                 

The Tandav case

On February 25, the Supreme Court denied protection from Purohit's arrest and rejected requests for bail.

The Uttar Pradesh police have filed an FIR against the executive director of Amazon for humiliating Hindu gods and promoting religious hatred through the show.

                                

Tandav actor Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Purohit and producer appealed to the Supreme Court seeking protection from being arrested in a registered FIR against those suspected of damaging religious sentiment and unwanted television content.
